Bio, Research Interests, and Projects

I was born and raised in Laredo, TX, which is a border town south of San Antonio along the I-35 corridor. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, I found myself doing research as a lab manager in a microbiology lab. During that time is when I decided to continue my education and pursue a PhD in the biomedical sciences.

Upon joining the Tanas Lab here at the University of Iowa, I have shifted my interest from microbiology to cancer research. Currently, I am studying the mechanism(s) of cellular transformation of the WWTR1 (TAZ)-CAMTA1 and YAP-TFE3 gene fusions found in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma.
